Crafting and skills

Crafting is how you shape your character, not how you get rich. Crafted items are soulbound: they cannot be traded to other players, they work for the person who made them (a shopkeeper will still buy one for a little), and they give a small, real advantage. Players will not get rich crafting in this game.

Quality

Every item has a quality tier, and better skill raises the odds of a better one.

  • Common
  • Uncommon
  • Rare
  • Epic
  • Legendary

The three trades have their own soulbound gear: the Teamster for animals and the road (riding crop, carrot on a stick, double harness), the Factor for money and paper (brass scale, signet ring, merchant medallion, diplomat quill, reading glasses), and the Provider for living off the land and keeping what you carry (canvas cloak, false-bottomed crate, secret pocket). Many need a character level as well as a craft skill.

Higher tiers give bigger numbers, a bonus to a second trait, and more durability. Gear wears down; repair it at the shop that sells it.

Skills and books

Learn to read at the library, then study books for skill experience (once each). A trainer in a workshop teaches the most experience, books next, and practice by crafting the least. Scribes copy books from paper and ink.

Crafting takes real time. A level 1 recipe takes about 20 seconds; each recipe level multiplies that by 1.35, so level 10 work takes around five minutes. Skill above the recipe level shortens it, and so does a crafting tool in your Tool slot (a whetstone, a sharp knife or a set of master tools, all made at the smith). The materials are used up when you start, the time runs on the server, and you collect the item at that workshop whenever you come back.

Recipes and what they give you

Bring the materials and the skill to the right workshop. The benefit shown is for a Common item; each quality tier above it raises the number and adds a bonus to a second trait. Traits are Strength (carry more), Endurance (tire and hunger more slowly), Constitution (more health), Haggling (better prices, better odds with the bandits) and Perception (spot ambushes).
